Opportunity to support young innovators at universities in the EAC
IUCEA together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Centre of Excellence for ICT in East Africa (CENIT@EA) at the Nelson Mandela African Institute for Science and Technology (NM-AIST), among other partners, have initiated a programme to support young innovators at universities in the EAC under the Digital Innovation for Business Resilience in the EAC, as part of the dSkills@EA Project.
The programme aims to support young innovators at universities in the EAC to develop digital innovations for the industry and design new digital business models for business resilience. StartHub Africa Ltd, an entrepreneurship support organization in Uganda, is coordinating this activity.
The programme targets students and recent graduates with an idea for a digital innovation that needs more support in implementing and growing. After an online application phase, up to 200 participants per country will go through an online Ideathon in February 2022 to refine their ideas. Based on the Ideathon, a maximum of 10 teams per country of the EAC will be selected for a physical five days bootcamp training taking place in each country in March 2022. The activity ends with National Pitch-Events in March 2022, providing a relevant opportunity to connect Universities and Industry. The winners from each country will then compete at the online East Africa Final Event in April 2022 for awards of USD 10,000 in total.
The program is a great opportunity for young innovators to gain relevant skills in innovation and entrepreneurship, support in implementing their ideas, exposure and connection with other innovators and the ecosystem.
We invite university students and recent graduates to participate in the program.
Students and graduates can apply at www.dskills.iucea.org until 21st February 2021.
There will be a National Pitch-Event in March 2022 and the online Grand Finale in April 2022 to witness student Innovations and to connect with the industry. Formal details including exact dates and location will follow.
