IUCEA, UbuntuNet Alliance move to formalise cooperation

:          The Chief Executive Officer of UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and Education Networking, Prof. Madara Ogot, today paid a courtesy visit to the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) at the IUCEA Secretariat at Kyambogo, Kampala.

UbuntuNet Alliance and IUCEA have been collaborating since 2017 but today the two institutions moved a step closer to formalizing their working relationship. They have identified areas for collaboration and agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. Together IUCEA and UbuntuNet Alliance will strengthen Regional Research and Education Networks in the EAC region and will jointly mobilise resources for this cause.

UbuntuNet Alliance is a membership organisation of National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Prof. Gaspard Banyankibona, Executive Secretary, IUCEA, said higher education institutions and learners in the East African Community still have challenges with internet connectivity, high costs, access to computers and other difficulties hence the need to accelerate digital teaching and learning and use of ICT in the region.

The IUCEA Strategic Plan for the period of 2021-2026 has two strategic objectives with an emphasis on digitalization.  IUCEA aims to establish and implement a regional information hub for integrated higher education. IUCEA will also advocate for a digital learning infrastructure that focuses on enhancing quality and innovation of teaching and learning in higher learning institutions in the EAC.
