Introduction

The East African Community is developing centers of excellence for Biomedical Sciences in order to address the challenges in diseases’ burden that has seen citizens of the countries of the East African Community seeking high-level medical services in other regions and continents of the world, an arrangement that has not always been effective, in addition to depleting a lot of the hardly earned resources.

The East African Community has prioritized centers of excellence in cardiovascular diseases, kidney and renal diseases, oncology, vaccines and supply chain management as well as in Nutrition Sciences. The East African Community has allocated Centers of Excellences for each of the referred areas of health in the different Partner States under a model that each center is being enabled to become a regionally leading institution in the selected area on services, training, and research. The Center of Excellence in nutrition sciences, referred to as East African Nutrition Sciences Institute (EANSI) is hosted at the University of Burundi in Bujumbura, Burundi.

The Republic of Burundi has secured financial resources from the African Development Bank (ADB) for the center of excellence at the EANSI that will include among others, a Master’s degree scholarship programme for East Africans. EANSI is inviting qualified citizens of the Partner States of the East African Community to apply for a full scholarship programme as part of its role in providing regional leadership in Nutrition Sciences in 2 programmes of Nutrition and Health and Food Science and Nutrition elaborated below.
