CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: THE 2ND EAC SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION CONFERENCE

Introduction

The East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) under the auspices of the EAC wishes to announce the call for abstracts for the Second East African Science, Technology and Innovation Conference and Exhibitions.  The objective of the Conference is to provide a platform for information sharing and networking among scientists, technologists, innovators and industrialists from a wide range of sectors, including the academia, industry, the public and the private sectors. The theme of the Conference is The Role of Science, Technology and Innovation in EAC Regional Integration and Socio-Economic Development in the context of Covid-19 Pandemic. The Conference will be held both virtually and physically on 27th – 29th October 2021. The Physical Conference will be held in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Abstracts shall be submitted under the following themes and subthemes, but not limited to the specified areas under the subthemes and in either or both of 2 categories:

Scientific Research Abstracts

Scientific Research Abstracts shall meet the requisites for scientific research work namely, originality, technical and research depth, accuracy and relevance to the conference themes and topics

Popular Abstracts

Shall be characterized with clarity for non-thematic specialists, while providing information on relevant topical issues of interest.

The abstracts shall be accepted based on relevance to the themes of conference, contribution to STI aspects of the theme and responsiveness to the regional challenges in STI, including COVID-19 where applicable.

Submission of Papers

Submission of papers shall be in two stages

  1. Submission of abstracts: 

Applicants are required to submit abstracts, which will be selected through a peer review mechanism. Successful abstracts will be published in a Pre-conference Book of Abstracts. Abstracts shall not exceed 300 words, and shall be in MS Word, New Times Roman, font size 12, with no more than 5 keywords. The Abstract should contain the following sub-headings: Introduction; materials, methodology or accordingly, process; Results/Discussion; conclusion and recommendations. The deadline for submission of Abstracts is 7th September 2021.

  1. Submission of full papers:

Authors of successful abstracts shall be required to submit full conference papers 1st October 2021.

Instructions on the format for the full papers shall be provided to the successful applicants. The conference full papers shall be published in Conference Proceedings. In addition, authors will have an opportunity to submit their papers for publication in the East African Journal of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Eligibility 

Abstracts shall be accepted from researchers, industrialists and innovators from the academia, research institutions, and the private sector within East African Community and beyond.

Submission

The abstracts shall be  submitted electronically to the conference secretariat, through the EASTECO conference email: conference@easteco.org and copied to: exsec@iucea.org, not later than 7th September 2021.
