IUCEA Celebrates 10th Anniversary of the East Africa Community

As one of the major events undertaken to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the East African Community, the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) held a number of symposia at the New Africa Hotel-Dar es Salaam on 28th and 29th October 2009. The symposia brought together over about 100 university scholars and other stakeholders to discuss a number of topics, all geared to develop strategies for improved teaching, research and provision of social/community services.

The event “East African Community 10th Anniversary Universities Symposia” had its mantra “Strategic Management and Development of Higher Education for Socio Economic Development of East Africa Region”.

The Guest of honor for the symposia was his excellency the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Ali Mohammed Shein who officiated the event preceded by the key note address by the secretary general of the East Africa Community Amb. Dr. Juma Volta Mwapachu. The opening was followed by thematic key addresses and break away sessions into 5 symposia. The recommendations from the 5 symposia were presented in the plenary session before the closing.
