In East Africa regional higher education interactions and cooperation originates from the pre-independence era when Makerere University College was the only higher education institution in the region serving students from Kenya, the then Tanganyika, and Zanzibar in East Africa
The IUCEA Executive Secretary is pleased to send to Vice Chancellors/ Rectors/Directors /Principals of IUCEA member university institutions this call for applications for eligible academic staff members to participate as visiting lecturers/external examiners to other member university institutions in the region. Institutions that need support from other member institutions from another Partner State are invited to make a request to the Executive Secretary for suitable staff to act as visiting lecturers/external examiners in their institutions

Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), Kampala, Uganda 6th November 2013: President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged the academia and the private sector to respond to regional and global demands and challenges in order to effectively contribute to rapid socio-economic development of the EAC region and to focus on research and development initiatives with emphasis on attainment of food security, value addition, technology and access to markets.
