Introduces

The African Staff Exchange Programme

Objectives of the Programme

The objectives of this programme are to promote inter-university co-operation through academic mobility and to enhance the quality of teaching and research in African universities. DAAD co-operates with the IUCEA in the allocation of funding each year to IUCEA's African Staff Exchange Programme with respect to teaching assignments, courses and seminars to which credits are allocated.

Eligibility

Participants in the programme must be nominated by IUCEA member institutions needing their services, indicating what the duties and functions will be, including expected period and duration, and are granted leave of absence by their home institutions for the purpose of teaching at the guest institution. The duration of a teaching assignment may extend from at least two weeks to three months. Female applications will be especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Procedure

Applications are made directly to IUCEA:

The Executive Secretary
Inter University Council of East Africa
P.O Box 7110
Kampala-Uganda
Tel: +256 41 256251/2
E-mail: exsec@iucea.org

The IUCEA will screen and pre-select candidates and then forward these to DAAD.
The applicant will present the IUCEA and DAAD with a report on the assignment upon return.

Payment

DAAD's funding will be used to pay airfare (economy class); a per diem of up to US$ 40 for the assignment, and US$100 research allowance per month for the participant. The requesting or host institution shall provide the local expenses of the visiting professor/lecturer or participant such as lodging, board, local transportation, and medical care during his/her stay at the institution. The home institution of the visiting professor/lecturer or participant shall maintain the payment of his/her salary and benefits for the duration of his/her absence from institution to participate in the Staff Exchange Programme.
